Take note of whose performance you’re tracking more closely and who you’re advocating for. It is normal for us to be drawn to certain people based on things we have in common — the same alma mater, living in the same neighborhood, coming from the same hometown, being former employees of the same company. But those commonalities can sometimes lead us to invest more time, energy, and resources into some individuals over others. Identify who you’re NOT investing in and ask yourself why. Your actions may have been unconscious but the impact on those “other” people is definitely real.
