Look up Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) and find out what programs they’re known for. There’s been quite a buzz around HBCUs recently as the beneficiaries of many philanthropic and corporate initiatives to combat system racism. A handful of schools typically come up in these stories, such as Howard University, Spelman College, and Morehouse College, but there are several more to keep on the radar. Did you know:

Xavier University of Louisiana is a top producer of African American medical school applicants.

North Carolina A&T State University produces more African American engineers than any other HBCU.

Tuskegee University is a top producer of African American military generals, veterinarians, and engineering graduates.

Take some time to familiarize yourself with these institutions so you can recognize them and their alumni for their merit and strengths, and not just an acronym in corporate campaigns.
